Gyógyszerintenzív is a Hungarian term used in medical contexts to describe a situation, patient, or care pathway that requires intensive pharmacotherapy. The term combines gyógyszer (drug) and intenzív (intensive) to denote a high burden of medication use, typically involving multiple concurrent medications, complex dosing regimens, and close monitoring for safety and efficacy. It is often applied to elderly patients with multimorbidity, but can occur in any patient with extensive pharmacological treatment, such as cancer, psychiatric, or post‑ICU populations.

In practice, gyó gyógyszerintenzív care is associated with polypharmacy, potential drug–drug and drug–disease interactions, adverse drug events, medication non-adherence, and higher healthcare utilization. Recognizing gyógyszerintenzív states prompts processes like medication reconciliation at admission and discharge, regular review by clinicians and pharmacists, and consideration of deprescribing when potential benefits are outweighed by harms.

Management focuses on rational pharmacotherapy: simplifying regimens, selecting drugs with favorable risk–benefit profiles, adjusting dosing for age, kidney or liver function, and monitoring for effects. Use of clinical decision support, drug interaction checks, and validated tools (for example STOPP/START criteria, Beers criteria) supports decision‑making. Education of patients and caregivers and interprofessional collaboration are essential.
