Gussindustrie
The Gussindustrie, or foundry industry, produces metal castings by pouring molten metal into molds. It includes sand casting, die casting, investment casting, shell molding, and permanent mold casting, and serves sectors such as automotive, machinery, aerospace, energy, and consumer goods. Castings enable complex geometries and tailored mechanical properties and are produced from ferrous and non-ferrous metals, including gray and ductile iron, steel, aluminum, magnesium, copper alloys, and zinc.
Techniques: In sand casting, sand molds are created around a pattern; die casting uses high-pressure metal injection
Equipment and processes: Furnaces (electric arc, induction, cupola), melting, ladles, moulding lines, core making, feeders, risers,
Trends and outlook: Automation, robotics, process simulation and monitoring, digital twins, additive manufacturing integrations for prototyping
