Gryndal

Gryndal is a village and civil parish in the northern valleys of the Meander Region. It sits along the Gryndal River and covers about 18 square kilometers. The 2021 population was 1,420.

The village is first documented in 1192, with growth centered on the parish church and surrounding manor. The arrival of a late-19th century railway spur contributed to modest industrial development, while farming remained dominant.

The landscape is rolling pasture and woodland with a temperate climate. The Gryndal River provides irrigation and small-scale milling opportunities. The local economy centers on dairy farming, cereals, and small workshops, supported by a weekly market, a pub, and a shop. Notable landmarks include the 12th-century Saint Elowen Church and Gryndal Mill, a wooden watermill.

The community hosts an annual midsummer festival with folk music and crafts. Gryndal Primary School serves local families; secondary education is available in the nearby county town by bus.
