Groupentity

Groupentity is a conceptual construct used in data modeling and software design to represent a collection of related entities that are treated as a single unit for identification, access control, and certain operations. It is distinct from a simple list or set in that it embodies identity, lifecycle semantics, and behavior that apply to the collection as a whole, rather than only to its individual members.

A groupentity typically has its own unique identifier and may expose properties that describe the group as a unit, such as name, type, or metadata. Membership can be dynamic, with member entities added or removed over time. The group can enforce invariants or policies that apply to all members, and operations performed on the group may cascade to its members or trigger events. Common operations include adding or removing members, reordering, reparenting within a hierarchy, and performing aggregate queries (for example, counting members or computing combined attributes).

In practice, groupentities appear in various domains. In access control, a user group represents a collection of users that share the same permissions. In organizational structures, a department or team can be modeled as a groupentity. In product management, bundles or kits may be modeled as groupentities that aggregate individual items. From an implementation perspective, groups can be modeled as aggregates in domain-driven design, or as nodes with membership relationships in graph databases, and may be persisted through relational, document, or graph storage.
