Grondmonsters are a class of fictional subterranean creatures found in fantasy fiction, role-playing games, and related media. They are typically associated with soil, caves, and underground networks, and are often encountered as environmental hazards, adversaries, or guardians.

Physical characteristics vary widely. Common traits include burrowing adaptations such as broad heads, strong forelimbs, and bodies reinforced by rock-like armor or crystalline structures. Some resemble living earth with a creeping, amorphous mass, while others are more animal-like with eyes reduced or absent. Sensory systems are usually tuned to vibrations, seismic rumblings, or chemical cues rather than sight.

Habitat and diet: They inhabit tunnels, caverns, mines, and extensive root networks. Diet can include plant roots, detritus, fungi, and small subterranean animals; some subsist on mineral nutrients gleaned from rock. Behavior: Many are ambush predators, patiently watching for tremors, while others roam in search of minerals or moisture.
