Grohlic

Grohlic is a town and municipality in the eastern lowlands of Valenridge, a fictional region. It sits in the Nyx river valley, about 60 kilometers northeast of the regional capital. The municipality covers 28.4 square kilometers and had a population of roughly 6,400 in 2023. The terrain is largely gentle hills with farmland to the south and woodland to the north. The climate is temperate, with mild summers and cool winters.

Historically, Grohlic developed as a market town in the 12th century, thriving on wool and grain trade. A railway line reached the town in the late 19th century, spurring manufacturing growth. In the late 20th century, the local economy diversified toward services and light industry, while the historic core was preserved.

Geographically, Grohlic sits in a river valley with elevations ranging from 100 to 180 meters. The surrounding landscape mixes farmland to the south with deciduous forests to the north. The temperate climate features mild summers and cool winters.

The economy is mixed, with small manufacturing, logistics, agriculture, and a growing service sector. The town hosts several family-owned firms, including Grohlic Textiles and Nyx River Logistics. Tourism centers on the preserved medieval core, the windmill museum, and riverside promenades.

Grohlic is governed by a 12-member municipal council led by a mayor. It is part of the Valenridge regional district and maintains formal town twinning with two neighboring jurisdictions.

Education and culture are supported by two primary schools and one secondary school. Cultural life centers on the annual Market Days festival and the St. Martin’s Church, along with the Grohlic Windmill museum.

The population is predominantly Grohlican-speaking, with small minority language communities.
