Gonder
Gonder, also spelled Gondar, is a city in the Amhara Region of north‑central Ethiopia. It lies on a plateau at an elevation of about 1,800 metres (5,900 ft) above sea level and is situated along the main road linking Addis Ababa to Bahir Dar. The city had an estimated population of around 450,000 in 2020, making it one of Ethiopia’s largest urban centers. Its population is largely Amharic‑speaking, with sizable Oromo, Tigrinya, and Gurage communities, and several minority groups are also present.
