Glyphen is a fictional writing system and cultural concept created for use in fantasy settings. It denotes both a script and the body of lore surrounding its invention, usage, and interpretation within a world’s history and daily life.

Origins and structure: The Glyphen script combines logographic elements with phonetic signs, allowing representation of both words and syllables. A typical sign set comprises several hundred glyphs, with compound signs forming more complex phrases. The shapes are inspired by natural motifs such as waves, seeds, birds, and stones, giving the script a distinctive visual character. Texts are traditionally inscribed on durable materials like stone, wood, and metal, though later adaptations appear on parchment and metal plates.

Orthography and typography: In the canonical setting, Glyphen texts are arranged in vertical columns and read from top to bottom, with columns proceeding from right to left.
