Gasvervielfacher

A Gasvervielfacher, or gas multiplier, is a mechanical device used to increase the pressure of a gas. It operates on the principle of using a larger piston driven by a low-pressure fluid to move a smaller piston, which in turn compresses the gas. This process allows for a significant amplification of pressure compared to the input fluid pressure.

Gasvervielfachers are typically driven by hydraulic fluid or compressed air. The input fluid acts on a large-diameter piston, which is mechanically linked to a smaller-diameter piston. As the larger piston moves, it drives the smaller piston, which is in direct contact with the gas to be compressed. The ratio of the areas of the two pistons determines the pressure multiplication factor. For example, if the area of the driving piston is 100 times larger than the area of the driven piston, the gas pressure can theoretically be multiplied by 100.

These devices are often used in applications where high gas pressures are required but a high-pressure source is unavailable or impractical. Examples include gas inflation systems, pressure testing, and certain industrial processes. They offer a compact and efficient way to achieve high pressures without the need for a large, complex, and expensive high-pressure compressor. The operation is generally simple and reliable, making them suitable for various demanding environments.
