The concept draws on GS1 standards such as GTIN for product identification, GLN for locations and parties, SSCC for logistics units, and barcoding and GS1-128 symbology, as well as data synchronization through the Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN) and event data capture via EPCIS.

A GS1driven program typically begins with governance and capabilities assessment, followed by data quality improvements, master data management, and system integration to ensure that product and location data are consistent across suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and regulators.
