GRADEmeetodid refers to a set of methods used for grading or evaluating something, often in an academic or professional context. The acronym GRADE stands for Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation. This system is primarily known for its application in developing clinical practice guidelines. It provides a systematic approach to assess the quality of evidence and the strength of recommendations.

The GRADE methodology involves several key steps. First, it requires clear formulation of the question being addressed, often in a PICO format (Population, Intervention, Comparator, Outcome). Then, the quality of the evidence for each outcome is assessed. Evidence is typically categorized as high, moderate, low, or very low quality. Factors influencing this assessment include study design, risk of bias, inconsistency, indirectness, and imprecision.

Following the evidence assessment, GRADE facilitators determine the strength of the recommendation. Recommendations can be strong or weak. A strong recommendation implies that most individuals would want the recommended course of action and that this action is recommended for most people in the target group. A weak recommendation suggests that although there is likely a clear preference for the recommended course of action, considerable caution is advised, and different choices may be appropriate for different individuals. The GRADE system aims to ensure that recommendations are transparent, reproducible, and based on the best available evidence. It is widely adopted by numerous health organizations globally for guideline development.
