GNSSjärjestelmä, or Global Navigation Satellite System, is a constellation of satellites providing positioning, navigation, and timing services to users worldwide. The most well-known GNSS is the Global Positioning System (GPS) operated by the United States. Other notable systems include the Russian GLONASS, the European Union's Galileo, and the Chinese BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS). These systems use a network of satellites in medium Earth orbit to transmit precise timing and location data to receivers on the ground.

GNSS technology works by triangulating the position of a receiver using signals from multiple satellites. Each satellite continuously transmits its position and the exact time the signal was sent. The receiver calculates the distance to each satellite by measuring the time delay between the signal's transmission and reception. By knowing the distances to at least four satellites, the receiver can determine its precise location in three dimensions.

GNSS has a wide range of applications, including transportation, agriculture, surveying, and emergency services. It enables real-time tracking, mapping, and positioning with high accuracy. Advances in GNSS technology continue to improve its capabilities, making it an essential tool for modern navigation and positioning needs.
