These disruptions can manifest in various ways, impacting the accuracy, availability, or integrity of the positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) services provided by GNSS.

Common causes of GNSShäiriöissä include natural phenomena and human-made interference. Natural causes can involve atmospheric disturbances, such as ionospheric scintillation, which are fluctuations in the Earth's ionosphere that can bend or block GNSS signals. Solar flares and other space weather events can also significantly disrupt satellite signals.

Human-made interference is a growing concern and can be intentional or unintentional. Intentional interference, known as jamming, involves broadcasting radio frequency signals to overwhelm or block GNSS receivers. Spoofing, another form of intentional interference, involves transmitting false GNSS signals to trick receivers into calculating incorrect positions or times. Unintentional interference, or radio frequency interference (RFI), can arise from various electronic devices operating in close proximity to GNSS receivers, such as certain communication systems, power lines, or even some consumer electronics.

The consequences of GNSShäiriöissä can range from minor accuracy degradation to complete loss of navigation capability. This can affect a wide range of applications, including maritime and aviation navigation, land transportation, surveying, emergency services, and timing for financial networks and critical infrastructure.
