They refer to the methods and technologies used to detect and communicate the level of a substance, whether liquid, solid, or gas, within a container or vessel. This information is vital for a variety of applications, including preventing overfilling, ensuring sufficient supply, and monitoring material flow.

Various principles are employed to generate Füllstandsignalen. Common methods include hydrostatic pressure measurement, where the pressure exerted by the substance's height is converted into an electrical signal. Capacitive sensors utilize changes in capacitance as the substance alters the dielectric between electrodes. Conductive sensors work with conductive substances, detecting the level based on electrical conductivity. Ultrasonic sensors emit sound waves and measure the time it takes for them to return after reflecting off the substance's surface. Radar and microwave sensors operate on similar principles to ultrasonic but use electromagnetic waves, offering advantages in challenging environments.
