Fókusztávolságú is a Hungarian term that translates to "focal length" in English. It is a fundamental concept in optics and photography. Focal length refers to the distance between the optical center of a lens and its focal point. The focal point is the point where parallel rays of light converge after passing through the lens.

In photography, focal length is a crucial determinant of the field of view and magnification of an image. A shorter focal length, often found in wide-angle lenses, results in a broader field of view, capturing more of the scene. Conversely, a longer focal length, characteristic of telephoto lenses, narrows the field of view and magnifies distant objects, making them appear closer. The focal length is typically measured in millimeters.

Different focal lengths are suited for various photographic purposes. Wide-angle lenses are ideal for landscapes and architectural photography, while telephoto lenses are used for wildlife, sports, and portraits where isolating a subject is desired.
