Fémöntészetben refers to the practice of metal casting, a manufacturing process that involves pouring molten metal into a mold and allowing it to cool and solidify. This ancient technique has been used for thousands of years to create a wide range of objects, from simple tools and decorative items to complex industrial components. The basic principle involves creating a cavity in a heat-resistant material that replicates the desired shape of the final object. This mold is then filled with molten metal, which takes on the form of the cavity as it cools.

There are numerous types of metal casting, each suited to different materials, production volumes, and desired product characteristics. Sand casting is one of the oldest and most common methods, utilizing a mold made from sand mixed with a binder. Investment casting, also known as lost-wax casting, is employed for producing highly detailed and intricate parts, where a wax pattern is coated in a ceramic material, the wax is then melted out, and molten metal is poured into the resulting cavity. Die casting involves forcing molten metal under high pressure into reusable metal dies. Other methods include centrifugal casting, permanent mold casting, and shell molding, each with its own advantages and applications.

The choice of casting method depends on factors such as the type of metal being cast, the complexity of the design, the required surface finish, the dimensional accuracy needed, and the production quantity.
