Fugledes

Fugledes is a fictional coastal town and civil parish in the northern part of the country of Nortland. It is situated on a low, sandy shoreline with a natural harbor and surrounding farmland. The name is of Danish inspiration, often explained as meaning "bird's field" in local lore.

The first documentary references to Fugledes date from the 13th century, when it functioned as a small fishing hamlet. Through the medieval and early modern periods it expanded into a market town serving nearby farms. In the 19th and 20th centuries, improvements to roads and a modest wharf connected Fugledes to regional trade networks.

The town lies in a temperate maritime climate with mild winters and cool summers. The surrounding countryside comprises fields, salt marshes, and coastal dunes. Fugledes Marsh, a nearby nature reserve, supports birds such as geese and waders and is a local point of interest.

Today, the economy combines fishing, agriculture, and small-scale tourism. Local businesses include fish processing, bakery, and craft workshops. The harbor remains active for small vessels, while a regional road provides road links to larger towns. There is no passenger railway; the nearest station lies about 15 kilometers away.

Fugledes hosts an annual Bird Festival that celebrates local wildlife and coastal culture. The community maintains a parish church, a town hall, and a lending library. The local school, Fugledes Skole, serves primary students, while secondary education is located in a neighboring town.

Notable fictional residents include shipwright Jorgen Krogh and marine biologist Mina Solgaard.
