In topology, a subset S of a space X is frontierlikecontaining if it is closed, is a proper subset of X (not equal to X), and its boundary ∂S is nonempty. Under these conditions ∂S is contained in S, so the boundary characteristics are inherent to the set itself rather than lying entirely in its exterior.
