Fortschritt

Fortschritt is a German noun meaning progress or advancement, formed from fort- (forward) and Schritt (step). In philosophy, history, and the social sciences, it denotes an idea of gradual improvement through reason, planning, innovation, or reform. It is commonly used in discussions of science and technology, the economy, and public policy, with phrases such as Fortschritt der Wissenschaft (progress of science) and technologischer Fortschritt (technological progress).
