Formsprutningsmaskiner, commonly known as injection molding machines, are industrial machines used in the manufacturing process of molding plastic parts. They operate by melting plastic material and injecting it under high pressure into a mold cavity. Once the plastic cools and solidifies within the mold, the mold opens and the finished part is ejected.

The process begins with the plastic material, typically in pellet form, being fed into a heated barrel. An Archimedean screw, or a similar mechanism, rotates and conveys the plastic forward, simultaneously melting it through heat and friction. Once the molten plastic reaches the front of the barrel, the screw stops rotating and moves forward, acting as a plunger to inject the plastic into the mold. The mold is a precisely machined tool that defines the shape of the final product. After injection, the mold is held closed under high pressure while the plastic cools and hardens. Finally, the mold opens, and the finished part is released, ready for subsequent processes or assembly.

The clamping unit is responsible for holding the two halves of the mold together during the injection and cooling phases.
