Formkonzepte denote the guiding ideas and theoretical constructs about form in design, architecture, and art. The term encompasses how shapes, volumes, surfaces, and structures are conceived, generated, and interpreted. They address relationships among form, function, materiality, and perception, and influence decisions from composition and spatial organization to production strategies.

Core aspects include shape and silhouette, proportion and scale, surface articulation, mass and void, and tectonics. Light, color, texture, and material behavior play a role in how forms are perceived. Form concepts can be descriptive (analyzing existing forms) or prescriptive (guiding the creation of new forms). They are informed by design languages or formsprachen that express a coherent aesthetic or functional intent.
