Formatiivset

Formatiivset is an inflected form of the Estonian adjective formatiivne, commonly appearing as the partitive singular used to modify nouns or stand as a nominal phrase in contexts that require the partitive case (indefinite quantity, ongoing processes, negation or incomplete actions). As a grammatical form it appears in expressions such as formatiivset hindamist ("formative assessment" in partitive) and is used where the object is viewed as partial, unspecified or continuous.

Beyond its grammatical role, formatiivset relates to the broader concept of "formative" in several fields. In education, formative (formatiivne) practices and assessments are those designed to monitor learning and provide feedback for improvement rather than to assign final grades. In linguistics and morphology, a formative (or formative element) denotes a morpheme or affix that contributes to word formation.
