Folkeparti
Folkeparti is Norwegian for "People's Party" and is a term used by several political parties in Norway and other Nordic countries. The most prominent is the Norwegian Progress Party, formerly known as the People's Party before changing its name in 1973. Founded in 1973, the party emerged from a protest movement against high taxes and government intervention in the economy. It has positioned itself as a right-wing populist party advocating for reduced taxation, stricter immigration policies, and increased focus on law and order. The Progress Party has been part of several coalition governments, most notably as a supporting party to the Conservative-led government from 2013 to 2021. The party has maintained a significant presence in Norwegian politics, often polling as one of the largest parties in the country. Other parties with "Folkeparti" in their name include the Danish People's Party and the Swedish People's Party, though these are distinct political entities with their own platforms and histories. The term "Folkeparti" generally reflects a party positioning itself as representing the common people against established political elites.
