FoIPympäristö is a term that refers to the operational environment for implementing Fax over IP (FoIP) technology. It encompasses the necessary hardware, software, and network configurations that enable fax transmissions to be sent and received over an Internet Protocol (IP) network, rather than traditional circuit-switched telephone lines.

The core components of a FoIPympäristö typically include a FoIP gateway or server. This device acts as a translator, converting fax signals from the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) into data packets for transmission over the IP network, and vice-versa. Fax machines themselves may be directly connected to the FoIP network via a gateway, or users can send and receive faxes through software applications that integrate with the FoIP infrastructure.

A key consideration within the FoIPympäristö is the management of Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) for fax transmission.
