Fluorgase
Fluorgase is a synthetic fluorocarbon gas mixture developed for industrial use as a refrigerant and solvent in fluorination processes. The name derives from its primary component, tetrafluoroethylene (C₂F₄), combined with small amounts of perfluorohexane (C₆F₁₄) and perfluorobutane (C₄F₁₀). Fluorgase’s chemical composition gives it low density, high thermal stability, and negligible flammability, making it suitable for high‑pressure reactors where conventional hydrocarbon solvents would pose safety risks.
