Flodvåg

Flodvåg is a Swedish term that translates to "flood wave" or "inundation wave." It describes a sudden and significant rise in water levels in a river or other body of water, often leading to widespread flooding. This phenomenon is typically caused by a rapid increase in water discharge, which can result from several factors.

Heavy rainfall, especially over a prolonged period or in conjunction with snowmelt, is a common trigger for flodvåg. When the ground is saturated or frozen, it cannot absorb large amounts of precipitation, leading to increased surface runoff into rivers. Ice jams on rivers can also create a flodvåg.
