Flernivåinvertere, also known as multilevel inverters, are a type of power electronic converter that synthesizes an AC voltage waveform from several DC voltage levels. This is achieved by switching a series of switches to connect different combinations of DC sources to the output. Unlike traditional two-level inverters, which typically produce a square wave output that is then filtered, multilevel inverters generate an output voltage waveform that more closely approximates a sine wave with a reduced harmonic content.
