Flerleds

Flerleds is a term used in Swedish and Nordic technical literature to refer to an assembly or package that contains multiple light-emitting diodes (LEDs). A flerleds unit can be a cluster of discrete LEDs mounted on a common substrate or a single LED package that contains several emitters. The concept is used to achieve higher luminous flux, color mixing, or specific light-emitting patterns without requiring many separate components.

Common forms include LED arrays on printed circuit boards, where several diodes are connected in series, parallel, or a combination (series–parallel) to reach a desired forward voltage and current; integrated multi-die packages, such as RGB LEDs or white-light clusters, where several emitters share a common package for compactness and easier optical control; and LED modules with built-in ballast or driver electronics for easier integration in lighting systems or signage.

Configurations and electrical considerations include that in series arrangements, the same current flows through all diodes, while the total forward voltage is the sum of the individual diodes; in parallel arrangements, the voltage is common and current divides among emitters, with balancing resistors or active current sharing used as needed. RGB and other color-mixing configurations enable a wide range of color temperatures or dynamic color scenes when driven with independent current control.

Thermal management is important, as higher power density can raise temperatures and reduce lumen output or lifetime.
