Filialische

Filialische is a German adjective meaning related to a child or to the duties and affection of a child toward their parents. It is used in moral or family contexts to describe the attitudes, actions, or relationships of children toward their parents, as in filialische Liebe (filial love) and filialische Pflicht (filial duty). The term carries connotations of dutiful respect, care, and loyalty within the family.

It is mainly found in discussions of family ethics, parental relationships, or historical texts; in everyday speech Germans more often use phrases like “Pflicht der Kinder gegenüber den Eltern” or simply refer to the parents without the adjective. In biology, the related concept of a later generation is expressed with “Filialgeneration” rather than using “filialisch” as a general modifier.
