Fibroomi

Fibroomi is a Finnish term referring to a benign tumor, typically composed of fibrous connective tissue. These growths are generally slow-growing and do not spread to other parts of the body. Fibromas can occur in various locations, including the skin, uterus, and ovaries.

Skin fibromas, also known as cutaneous fibromas or fibroma molluscum, often appear as soft, flesh-colored or brownish bumps. They can be attached to the skin by a stalk and are more common in areas of friction, such as the neck, armpits, and groin. While usually harmless, they can sometimes cause cosmetic concerns or irritation.

Uterine fibromas, medically termed leiomyomas, are common non-cancerous tumors that develop in the muscular wall of the uterus. Their size and location can vary greatly, and they may cause symptoms such as heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, and frequent urination. In many cases, uterine fibromas are asymptomatic and discovered incidentally during pelvic examinations or imaging.

Ovarian fibromas are also benign tumors arising from the connective tissue of the ovary. They are typically solid masses and may or may not cause symptoms. If large enough, they can lead to pelvic pain or a feeling of fullness.

Diagnosis of fibromas usually involves a physical examination, and sometimes imaging techniques like ultrasound or MRI. Treatment depends on the location, size, and symptoms associated with the fibroma. Small, asymptomatic fibromas may not require any intervention, while larger or symptomatic ones might necessitate surgical removal. The term "fibroomi" broadly covers these benign fibrous growths.
