Feinsteinzeug
Feinsteinzeug, translated as fine stoneware, is a dense, vitrified ceramic material produced by high-temperature firing of a fine-grained body typically composed of clays, quartz, and feldspar. The firing temperatures promote vitrification, resulting in a non-porous, glassy matrix with very low water absorption, usually below 0.5% for porcelain stoneware formulations. The combination of hardness, chemical resistance, and dimensional stability makes it one of the most durable ceramic classes used in construction.
Manufacturing and finishes involve compacting the ceramic mix by pressing, then firing at temperatures around 1200
Applications and advantages include widespread use for floor and wall tiles in residential, commercial, and outdoor
History and terminology: The term Feinsteinzeug originates in the German ceramic industry and refers to porcelain
