Feegre

Feegre is a term that refers to the concept of a "minimum efficiency e suicide" or "minimum efficiency egocide", a thought experiment created by Robert Munafo in the mid-1990s. The idea proposes that an omnipotent and omniscient being (feeg) commits murder in order to optimize the chances of the killer's sentence being just long enough to save details of the plans for achieving immortality. In this thought experiment, the universe is compared to a prison where a prisoner has been sentenced to exactly the amount of time needed to complete a plan without improving their situation.

Munafo posited that, given the constraints of the sentence, an omniscient jailer might sentence the prisoner to precisely the right amount of time to carry out their plans, leading the prisoner to commit an act of homicide, effectively reducing their own lifespan and thereby optimizing the timing of their imprisonment. This hypothetical scenario involves a delicate balance of timing and chance, raising questions about the nature of mortality and the consequences of seemingly innocuous actions.

Feegre is primarily an intellectual exercise designed to explore the complexities and potential paradoxes involved in the concept of time, free will, and the choices available within the constraints of an unjust system. By probing the limits and possibilities of this theoretical scenario, Munafo sought to challenge traditional notions of cause and effect, encouraging viewers to question the principles driving the behavior of beings within the context of their environment.
