Extinguinho

Extinguinho is a fictional character created for fire-safety education in Portuguese-speaking contexts. The name derives from extintor, the word for fire extinguisher, with the diminutive suffix -inho.

The character first appeared in educational campaigns in Brazil in the early 2010s, designed to help children understand basic fire safety and the correct use of fire extinguishers, as well as emergency procedures.

Extinguinho is depicted as a small anthropomorphic fire extinguisher with a red body, a friendly face, and a white label. The character is used in cartoons, school posters, and interactive activities, often partnering with other safety mascots.

Through stories and demonstrations, Extinguinho teaches steps to operate an extinguisher (pull pin, aim at base, squeeze lever, sweep), explains different fire types and extinguisher classes at a simplified level, and reinforces avoidance of dangerous actions, calling emergency services, and exits.

Extinguinho has been adopted across classroom kits, digital resources, and public-awareness materials, with multilingual variants in some programs.
