Exitationen
Exitationen is a plural noun that refers to instances or processes of excitation across various scientific disciplines. The term is used to describe the act of stimulating a system or the resulting excited states, such as electrons promoted to higher energy levels, vibrational or rotational excitations in molecules, or collective excitations in solids. In many contexts, however, editors prefer more common German terms like Anregung or Erregung.
Etymology and usage note: Exitationen derives from the root excitation, influenced by Latin and English terminology.
- Physics and chemistry: electronic, vibrational, and rotational excitations; excitations in solids such as phonons or magnons;
- Neurophysiology and biology: nerve or muscle excitation, though contemporary terminology more commonly uses Erregung or Reizleitung
- Electrical engineering: excitation signals that drive devices or circuits; in German literature these are more often
