Stimulations refer to processes by which inputs elicit responses in a system, from sensory experiences to neural, chemical, or cognitive activation. In science, stimulation describes events or interventions that increase activity or output in a biological or artificial system. The term covers natural phenomena as well as therapeutic and experimental techniques.

Major categories include sensory stimulation (visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, gustatory); electrical stimulation (activating nerves, muscles, or brain regions with currents); chemical stimulation (neurotransmitters and drugs that raise excitability); cognitive stimulation (mental tasks to engage processing); and social or environmental stimulation (interaction and context).
