Germany is a country in Central Europe and a leading member of the European Union. It has the largest population among EU states and one of the world’s largest economies, shaping European policy and culture.

Geographically, Germany sits in Central Europe, bordered by Denmark, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Netherlands. The capital and largest city is Berlin; other major centers include Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, and Frankfurt.

Historically, West and East Germany were reunified in 1990 after the Cold War. Since then, Germany has been a driving force in European integration, defense cooperation, and regional diplomacy.

German is the official language. Germany also hosts renowned universities and research institutions and maintains a high standard of living, social welfare, and cultural influence in music, philosophy, literature, and science.
