EuroPalette

Europalette, commonly referred to as the Euro pallet, is a standardized wooden pallet used throughout Europe for the handling, storage, and transport of goods. It is the most widely used pallet type in European logistics and is designed to be compatible with standard handling equipment, enabling intermodal movement across warehouses, trucks, ships, and rail.

The standard size of the Europalette is 800 by 1200 millimeters. It is typically around 144 millimeters high and is designed for four-way forklift access. Pallets are usually constructed from softwood or other wood types and feature a top deck and a bottom deck arrangement that supports pallets from all sides for easy handling.

Standardization and quality control are overseen by the European Pallet Association (EPAL). EPAL sets the specifications for dimensions, strength, and durability, and maintains a system for marking and tracing pallets. Pallets bearing the EPAL logo and serial markings are considered interchangeable within the European pallet network. Repairs must follow EPAL guidelines to maintain interchangeability.

Performance characteristics typically include a dynamic load rating in the range of about 1,000 to 1,500 kilograms and a static load capacity near 3,000 kilograms, though exact figures depend on construction and condition. The Europallet is subject to repair cycles and replacement rules to ensure consistent performance and compatibility across the supply chain.

History and usage: the Euro pallet emerged as part of postwar efforts to standardize logistics in Europe. EPAL was established to oversee the certification, repair, and propagation of the standard, and the Europalette remains a foundational element of European and international logistics systems. Variants and related pallet formats exist, but the 800×1200 millimeter Euro pallet remains the dominant standard in the region.
