Etäkäyttöympäristö, often translated as remote access environment or remote desktop environment, refers to a system or platform that allows users to access and control computer resources, applications, or entire desktops from a location different from where the resources are physically situated. This access is typically facilitated through a network connection, such as the internet or a private network.

The primary purpose of an etäkäyttöympäristö is to provide flexibility and accessibility. Users can work from home, travel, or any other location, effectively bringing their work environment with them. This is achieved by transmitting the user interface of the remote computer to the local device and sending user input (keyboard strokes, mouse movements) back to the remote machine.
