Ethernetpoort

Ethernetpoort is a Dutch term referring to an Ethernet port, a common hardware interface for connecting devices to a local area network (LAN) or the internet. It is standardized by the IEEE 802.3 family of standards. Typically, an Ethernet port is an RJ45 connector, which is a modular plug with eight pins. This port allows for wired network connections, providing a stable and often faster alternative to wireless connections.

These ports are ubiquitous in modern computing and networking equipment. They are found on personal computers, laptops, servers, routers, switches, modems, smart TVs, gaming consoles, and many other networked devices. The physical appearance of an Ethernet port is a small rectangular socket, usually with a clip to secure the cable. When an Ethernet cable is plugged in, it establishes a physical connection, enabling data transmission between devices using the Ethernet protocol.

Ethernet ports support various speeds, commonly ranging from 10 megabits per second (Mbps) to 10 gigabits per second (Gbps) and even higher in newer standards. The speed of the port, along with the capabilities of the connected network infrastructure, determines the maximum data transfer rate. While wireless technologies like Wi-Fi have become popular, Ethernet ports remain essential for applications requiring high bandwidth, low latency, and reliable connectivity, such as online gaming, video conferencing, and large file transfers.
