Esteinä

Esteinä is a fictional sovereign archipelago and parliamentary republic created for world‑building and reference in literature and games. The nation comprises five main islands—Aldar, Brin, Dalga, Ekran, and Fyra—and numerous islets linked by ferries and bridges. The terrain ranges from low hills to rocky coastlines, with fjordlike inlets and dense pine forests. The climate is cool and maritime, with frequent rain and strong winds. The capital and largest city is Vesterfjord, located on Aldar.

Historically a seafaring trading society, Esteinä began centralization in the early modern era and adopted a modern constitutional framework in the 20th century. It maintained a long tradition of maritime neutrality and regional autonomy among its islands.

Esteinä operates as a constitutional parliamentary republic. The President serves as head of state, while the Prime Minister is head of government. The unicameral National Assembly has 70 seats; members are elected by proportional representation for four-year terms. The judiciary is independent, and local authorities govern the individual islands.

With a population around 380,000, Esteinä maintains a diversified economy centered on sustainable fishing and aquaculture, shipbuilding, and renewable energy, especially offshore wind and tidal power. Services, tourism, and light manufacturing contribute significantly. The currency is the Estein Crown (ESC).

The official language is Esteinian. English and several island dialects are spoken as minority languages. The culture emphasizes maritime heritage, craftwork, and seasonal festivals.
