Epoxier

Epoxier is a term with limited standard usage, potentially referring to a person who applies epoxy resin coatings or to a chemical agent that performs epoxidation. It is not a widely established English noun and is more likely encountered in industry jargon or as a loanword from French, where époxier can denote a craftsman skilled in epoxy work.

As a profession, an epoxier performs surface preparation and coating application on floors, tanks, and structural components. Duties include cleaning, degreasing, and abrading substrates; mixing resin with hardener according to a specified ratio; controlling ambient conditions to maintain pot life; and applying coatings by brush, roller, or spray to achieve a uniform film. They may also apply primers or topcoats, conduct curing inspections, and perform repairs or recoating as needed. Materials commonly used include epoxy resins, hardeners, fillers, and ancillary additives. Finishes offer high adhesion, chemical resistance, and moisture barriers but can require careful UV protection and temperature control to avoid cracking or yellowing.

In chemistry, epoxidation is the reaction that converts alkenes into epoxides. Agents that epoxidize include peracids such as mCPBA, and catalytic systems using hydrogen peroxide with catalysts like titanium silicalite (TS-1). Epoxide rings are reactive and widely used in polymers, pharmaceuticals, and agrochemicals.

Safety and standards are important for epoxier work. Epoxy resins can cause skin and eye irritation or sensitization; appropriate PPE, ventilation, and proper handling and disposal are essential.
