The curing process of epoxy resins typically involves the reaction of the epoxide groups with a hardener, such as amines or anhydrides, leading to a cross-linked polymer network.

Epoxy compounds also find applications in the synthesis of various organic molecules. Their ability to undergo ring-opening allows for the introduction of functional groups and the construction of complex molecular architectures. In medicine, some drugs contain epoxide functionalities or are synthesized using epoxide intermediates. However, due to their reactivity, some epoxides can also exhibit toxicity and mutagenicity, necessitating careful handling and consideration of their biological effects.
