Enesehinnanguga

Enesehinnanguga is an Estonian adjective meaning “with self-esteem” or “having self-esteem.” It is formed from enesehinnang (self-esteem) plus the comitative suffix -ga, which expresses accompaniment or possession. The phrase is used to describe a person or a group characterized by a certain level of self-esteem, for example: “ta on enesehinnanguga inimene” (he/she is a person with self-esteem).

In psychology and education, enesehinnang is a central concept related to emotional well-being, motivation and social functioning. People described as enesehinnanguga are often considered to cope well with challenges and to show resilience, self-efficacy and goal-oriented behavior. At the same time, scholars note that self-esteem can vary in level and quality, and disproportionately high or fragile self-esteem may be associated with certain risks; the emphasis is generally on balanced and realistic self-evaluation.

Measurement of self-esteem in Estonian contexts commonly employs standardized scales, such as versions of the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale that have been translated and validated for Estonian populations. In research and practice, the concept is used to examine outcomes in adolescence, education, mental health and well-being, as well as to guide interventions aimed at fostering healthy, realistic self-regard.
