Endtoendtestaus, or end-to-end testing, is a software testing approach that validates the complete workflow of a system from the initial user action to the final outcome, ensuring that all components, layers, and external integrations work together as intended. The goal is to confirm that a business process can be executed from end to end under realistic conditions, rather than verifying individual parts in isolation.

Typical scope and focus include the entire user journey, data flow between frontend, backend, databases, message queues, and external services, as well as correct error handling, state transitions, performance characteristics, and security controls. End-to-end tests aim to emulate real-world usage to detect issues that may not be visible through unit or integration testing.

The testing process usually involves creating production-like environments, preparing realistic test data, and executing scripted or exploratory tests that cover critical business scenarios. Results are tracked, defects are logged, and tests are re-run after fixes to verify end-to-end correctness.

End-to-end testing complements other testing levels such as unit, integration, and acceptance testing. While E2E tests are slower and can be more brittle due to their breadth, they provide valuable assurance that the system meets business requirements in practice.

Common approaches employ UI automation tools like Selenium, Cypress, or Playwright for end-user flows, API-focused tests with tools such as Postman or Karate, and, where appropriate, service virtualization to stabilize external dependencies. Best practices include prioritizing high-value journeys, maintaining test data consistency, managing environments carefully, and balancing automated E2E tests with more granular tests to control maintenance cost.
