Endotelisoluts

Endotelisoluts are a proposed class of solute-regulating entities associated with the vascular endothelium. The term combines endothelium with soluts, a cue to their allegedly role in mediating selective movement of solutes across the endothelial barrier. The concept has not been established as a distinct physiological entity in mainstream physiology and remains largely within speculative discussions and non‑peer‑reviewed sources.

In proposed models, endotelisoluts may be membranous or cytosolic complexes that localize to luminal or abluminal surfaces, potentially interacting with the cytoskeleton, vesicular pathways, or junctional structures. They are hypothesized to form dynamic assemblies that respond to shear stress, inflammation, and metabolic signals, modulating their activity accordingly.

Functionally, endotelisoluts are thought to regulate the transport of small ions, nutrients, and metabolic products, contributing to the overall permeability profile of the endothelium. They are viewed as a complement to established routes such as paracellular pathways, vesicular transcytosis, and ion channels, potentially shaping the selectivity or rate of solute flux under various physiological or pathological conditions.

Evidence and status remain preliminary. Current support consists of limited in vitro observations, sparse imaging hints, and theoretical models, with no broadly accepted molecular identity or in vivo demonstration. Consequently, endotelisoluts are often treated as a speculative framework rather than a defined cellular structure within vascular biology.
