Emmaaric
Emmaaric is a genus of aromatic herbs native to the tropical lowland forests of South Asia. The name derives from the Sanskrit word “em” meaning “bloom” and the Greek suffix “‑aric” meaning “aroma.” Two species are most commonly cultivated: Emmaaric indica and Emmaaric robusta. Leaves of both species are glossy green, 2–4 centimetres long, and emit a citrusy fragrance when crushed. The plants thrive in humid, well‑drained soils and are often grown for culinary and medicinal purposes by indigenous communities along the Indian coast, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives.
