Embolizácii

Embolizácia is a medical procedure used to intentionally block blood flow in a specific blood vessel. This is typically performed to stop or control bleeding, reduce the size of a tumor by cutting off its blood supply, or treat other vascular abnormalities. The blockage is created by introducing an embolic agent, which can be a variety of materials such as small particles, coils, gels, or glue-like substances.

The procedure is usually performed by interventional radiologists or vascular surgeons. It is minimally invasive, often requiring only a small incision through which a catheter is inserted. Guided by imaging techniques like fluoroscopy or angiography, the catheter is navigated through the bloodstream to the target vessel. Once in position, the embolic agent is delivered through the catheter to occlude the vessel.

Embolizácii has a wide range of applications. It is commonly used to treat conditions such as traumatic bleeding, gastrointestinal bleeding, uterine fibroids, arteriovenous malformations, and certain types of cancer, particularly liver cancer. While generally safe, potential complications can include pain, infection, or damage to surrounding tissues, though these are relatively rare. The recovery time varies depending on the condition being treated and the extent of the procedure.
