Elohopeatermometrejä

Elohopeatermometrejä, or mercury thermometers, are temperature measuring devices that utilize the thermal expansion of mercury. A mercury thermometer consists of a glass tube with a sealed reservoir at one end containing mercury. As the temperature rises, the mercury expands and rises up the calibrated tube, indicating the temperature. Conversely, when the temperature falls, the mercury contracts and moves down the tube.

These thermometers have been widely used due to mercury's predictable expansion and visibility. They are typically calibrated in degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit. The narrow bore of the capillary tube and the markings on the glass allow for relatively precise readings. Mercury thermometers are often used in scientific and medical applications, though their use has declined in some areas due to concerns about mercury toxicity and the availability of digital alternatives.

The accuracy of a mercury thermometer can be affected by factors such as atmospheric pressure, though this effect is generally minimal for typical applications. They are also susceptible to breakage due to their glass construction. Despite the emergence of digital thermometers, mercury thermometers remain a classic and reliable tool for temperature measurement in many contexts, valued for their simplicity and robust design.
