Elektrostatiline

Elektrostatiline is a term found in several languages to denote concepts, devices, or methods that rely on electrostatic phenomena, i.e., charges at rest. In English, the related field is electrostatics, the branch of physics that studies stationary electric charges and the fields and potentials they produce.

Electrostatics examines how electric charges at rest generate electric fields, how those fields interact with materials, and how they give rise to potentials. The foundational concepts include Coulomb's law, which quantifies the force between point charges; the electric field E as the force per unit charge; electric potential V; and Gauss's law, which relates electric flux to enclosed charge. Problems are solved to determine field distributions, potential differences, and capacitances, often using symmetry or boundary conditions. Dielectrics, polarization, and electrostatic induction are key phenomena that shape how charges behave near materials.

Applications and related technologies emerge from these principles. Electrostatic precipitators use charged particles and electric fields to remove dust from gases. Electrostatic coating and painting rely on charged paint particles attracted to surfaces. Toner-based laser printers and copiers operate by creating electrostatic charges on photoconductive drums to control toner deposition. Electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection and antistatic materials reduce unwanted charge buildup in electronics and industrial settings.

Measurement and safety considerations include field strength in volts per meter, charge in coulombs, and potential differences in volts. Proper design and shielding mitigate stray fields and arcing in high-voltage systems.
