The type of wire used depends on its application, varying in material, gauge, and insulation properties. Common conductor materials include copper and aluminum, chosen for their conductivity. Insulation protects the conductor from damage, prevents short circuits, and can provide shielding against electromagnetic interference.

The gauge of a wire, often indicated by American Wire Gauge (AWG) or millimeters squared, determines its current-carrying capacity. Thicker wires (lower AWG numbers or larger cross-sectional area) can handle higher currents. Insulation materials range from simple PVC to more specialized polymers like PTFE or silicone, selected based on factors such as temperature resistance, flexibility, and chemical compatibility.

Electronic wiring can be found in a vast array of products, from simple consumer electronics like remote controls and calculators to complex industrial machinery and medical equipment.
